Converting My Rock Band Drum Kit? (3, Funny)

WrongSizeGlass (838941) | more than 4 years ago | (#31365260)

Man, do I feel like a dumbass ... I use my keyboard to play online poker. Thanks for opening my eyes to the error of my ways ...

BTW, can anyone loadn me a few chips? I only need three cards to hit this inside straight.

i play with the optimus mini three v2 [artlebedev.com] ("check/fold", "check/call", "bet/raise"), and griffin powermate [griffintechnology.com] to vary bet sizes in no limit or pot limit games (turn knob), and switch tables (press knob).

What sites does this work on. PokerStars? I'm interested in more details. Please?

it doesn't work out of the box, but you can configure it to work with all sites...

Gives a new practical meaning to the 'poker speak' of "hit me" !

Re:Gives new meaning (5, Funny)

Bluesman (104513) | more than 4 years ago | (#31365412)

Especially since you only say that in Blackjack.

Tilt (3, Funny)

Great, so when I go on tilt, get pissed off and start beating on the drum set, I inadvertently go All In and loose MORE money...

I inadvertently go All In

And inadvertently play like a PRO.
I'm sick of this Texas Hold 'Em shit. The game is so shitty! It's all luck and bullshitting. I guess that's why it attracts the fucking douchebags and blowhards.

Jack "Southwest" Fuckducker is showing a 4 and a 6.
Here comes the flop, nothin' there to help him
OH AND HE GOES ALL IN
Everyone else folds

WHAT A PLAYER!

Re:Tilt (1)

nedlohs (1335013) | more than 4 years ago | (#31365636)

There's no need to get annoyed because other people are better at a game than you.

Re:Tilt (1)

TangoMargarine (1617195) | more than 4 years ago | (#31365746)

I would agree that for example, 5-card stud is more of an actual game, versus a contest to see who has the biggest balls. Unfortunately, if you say "poker" everyone immediately thinks texas hold 'em.

Re:Tilt (0, Troll)

ZosX (517789) | more than 4 years ago | (#31366132)

that's why I hate hold'em. no real skill necessary, you might as well play blackjack.

Re:Tilt (1)

mattack2 (1165421) | more than 4 years ago | (#31366248)

Why does 5 card stud have more skill than hold 'em? Come on, you can't seriously tell me that Daniel Negreanu doesn't have skill in reading people which ends up making him a very winning player over the long haul?

Geez.. and it's ironic that you pick blackjack, because that's the one casino game that, at least in the most basic setups(*), the optimal player can have an advantage over the house.
(Obviously you play hold 'em against other players, and the house takes a rake.)

(*) I don't know all of the variations, but I know that various seemingly slight tweaks can even remove the tiny advantage an optimal player (which most people aren't) has.

Re:Tilt (1)

TangoMargarine (1617195) | more than 4 years ago | (#31367230)

I wouldn't say stud has more *skill* than hold 'em, it's just that you can actually affect what your hand is, instead of just trying to make everyone think it's better, etc. It's not that hold 'em has the bluffing element, but that that's ALL THERE IS to the game.

Re:Tilt (1)

nedlohs (1335013) | more than 4 years ago | (#31367708)

What are you talking about??? You can't affect what your hand is in stud.

It seems you have no idea what you are talking about, and what you actually don't like isn't Hold'em versus Stud, but limit versus no limit.

And hold'em, even the no limit variety, is far more than just bluffing.

If someone is an idiot and doesn't understand that the situations in which 'all-in' with 64o is the correct play aren't the norm and instead copies what they see on TV tournaments then they will be doing nothing but bluffing. They will also lose all their money very quickly to the people who do understand. They're fun to play with too, pity they never last long...

Hold-em variants are easier to play than stud variants - luck does play a bigger roll. And for the people who know how to play them that is a *good* thing - the more luck there is the longer bad players will keep playing (and giving away their money) because they don't just keep losing all the time.

Re:Tilt (1)

TangoMargarine (1617195) | more than 4 years ago | (#31367790)

Okay sorry, I meant to say five-card draw. My mistake.

Re:Tilt (1)

nedlohs (1335013) | more than 4 years ago | (#31370572)

Even then there's no real change to you hand.

Unless you are bluffing, which is the thing you seem not to like, there is an optimal number of cards to draw given your hand and the previous action.

5-card draw also only has two rounds of betting and hence is less profitable if you have an advantage over your opponents.

Re:Tilt (2, Insightful)

nedlohs (1335013) | more than 4 years ago | (#31367718)

Optimal play in blackjack does not have an advantage over the house. Unless by optimal you mean card counting and varying bet sizes accordingly - in which case it still doesn't have an advantage because you won't be allowed to play anyway.

Re:Tilt (1)

mcvos (645701) | more than 4 years ago | (#31369438)

Would my poker experience help to shine some light on this discussion? On a company outing we recently had a poker workshop: Texas Hold'em, of course. Some people there had poker experience, a few had even played in tournaments. It was my first time ever playing poker, but I won, defeating about 30 people.

Of course I don't have the experience to say how common something like this is, but my impression is that luck has quite a big impact on the game. (Though not being completely stupid helps too, I suppose.)

For once, this mistake is actually appropriate.

Done that. (4, Funny)

Matrix14 (135171) | more than 4 years ago | (#31365440)

I made a kill once in Halo with an unmodified Rock Band drum kit. It was completely luck, though; all I could do was jump and shoot, not move in any way.

Try using a DDR dance mat. Playing Super Mario Bros on the Wii with one I made it to level 1-4. Then I decided that was really dumb.

[...] three easy steps to converting your Rock Band drum kit into a wireless game controller [...]

A Rock Band Drum kit starts out as a rather expensive wireless game controller.

That's like "three easy steps to converting your Lamborghini Murcielago into a gasoline-powered automobile".

Online poker is the ultimate RSI inducing activity.
It demands total focus, I've always wanted a dedicated wireless poker keyboard that supports multitabling.

It would be an easy product for a poker playing slashdotter out there.
Maybe these guys could help http://www.synctronics.com/ [synctronics.com]

Why is the Rock Band kit not a HID in the first place? it should talk to any OS or any Console.

Why is the Rock Band kit not a HID in the first place?

Probably because regular drumsticks are already HID's ... granted, they usually generate a negative response, but they are definitely effective at the whole interfacing thing.

Slashdot, you're losing your luster. (1)

If by flooded you mean requests from your bosses then ok.

The next step is obviously to convert a Dance Dance Revolution mat so the player is constantly jumping around. That way, even if you lose money, you're at least also losing weight.

What would be the easiest way to do the following on windows? I want 10 players to have a playstation controller each. Whenever any player presses the button A on his controller, I want the letter A to be sent to the operating system. A running desktop applications should not be able to distinguish between the letter A pressed on a playstation controller and the letter A pressed on the keyboard. At the same time I would like to keep a log file of who pressed which letter when. Can I do this with off the shelf software, or is there an easy way to code it? Can I use existing hardware?
